What will you actually earn?

Enter a salary from a job offer or your contract. We work out your regular monthly pay, the extra you get in May, what the 30% ruling is worth, and what your first Dutch payslip will look like. Or start from the take-home pay you need and see the gross salary to ask for. Everything is calculated in your browser; we don't store your answers.

Frequently asked questions

How much income tax do you pay in the Netherlands in 2026?

For employees below state pension age, the 2026 rates are 35.75% up to €38,883, 37.56% up to €78,426, 49.5% above €78,426. The first two rates include national insurance contributions. Most employees also get the general tax credit and the employment tax credit through payroll, which lower the tax considerably on low and middle incomes.

Why is my monthly payslip lower than other calculators show?

Many calculators spread the 8% holiday allowance over 12 months. Most Dutch employers pay it in one go in May, so your regular payslip is lower and May's is much higher. This calculator shows both separately.

How is holiday pay taxed?

Holiday pay, a 13th month and bonuses are taxed at a special rate (bijzonder tarief). It is based on your yearly salary and is often higher than the tax on your regular salary, because extra income also reduces your tax credits. Your tax return settles any difference.

How does the 30% ruling change my net salary?

If you were recruited from abroad and qualify, your employer can pay up to 30% of your salary tax-free. Your taxable salary after the tax-free part must be more than €48,013 in 2026, or €36,497 if you are under 30 and have a Dutch-equivalent master's degree. The allowance applies to salary up to €262,000. For most people the maximum drops to 27% from 2027.

Is health insurance taken off my salary?

No. You pay the basic health insurance premium yourself, directly to your insurer: about €157 a month in 2026. Your employer pays the income-related health contribution (Zvw) on top of your salary, so it doesn't lower your net pay. Tick the health insurance option to see what's left after the premium.

Does this calculator work for me?

It assumes you are an employee below state pension age who is a Dutch resident taxpayer, with your tax credits applied by this employer. If you work part-time, enter your part-time salary. If you live abroad and work in the Netherlands, or have more than one job, your tax can be different.

Sources and method

Tax rules were checked on 4 October 2026. We calculate the tax for the whole year, including holiday pay and any 13th month, with the 2026 rates and tax credits, and apply the 30% ruling only if your salary is above the threshold. Your regular monthly pay is the tax on your regular salary alone, divided by 12; holiday pay and a 13th month get the extra tax they add, which is how the special rate works. Payroll uses monthly tables, so your payslips can differ by a few euros. We assume you are an employee below state pension age who is a Dutch resident taxpayer.
